The Athenian Heliaia
Committee Description:
This is a court set in ancient Athens. back in ancient Athens, the citizens would be trialed in front of 6000 men. The hēliaia was the supreme court of Athens. The court was a signature institution of democratic Athens where citizens presented legal disputes in front of juries of their peers to resolve arguments in a fair, democratic manner. The advocates (delegates) will have ancient Athens cases that are set in the time of ancient Athens. The debate will follow a normal court debate with opening speech stipulations (unbiased facts about the care ) then evidence (biased facts about the case that solidify the council's argument) then witnesses the closing speeches and then jury deliberation. The advocates should follow the ancient Athenian law instead of the Rome statute. The advocates will trial the defendants as if they were being persecuted in the time of ancient Athens.
